Pilot line: Bioscaffolds

Inkjet printing for functionalisation of 3D implants
(building on results from INKplant project).

Objective: Development of a GMP ready Pilot Line consisting of an upgraded 5-axis inkjet printer from PROFACTOR with multi-material printing capabilities able to process 2 different types of biodegradable inkjet inks including photopolymerizable- and water-based inks. The process will be combined with micro-dispensing of cell-interactive high viscosity hydrogels.

The capabilities of the pilot line will be demonstrated by printing a chondrogenic regenerative implant in combination with a ceramic carrier. The implant will be a custom-made device, adapted in size and morphology to the individual patient and press-fit implantation into knee defects.

The technology will be made market ready by Agensmed within a certified process for the fabrication of medical devices or active implants and cell-containing ATMP for different use cases.
