The Pilot lines
Pilot line 1 Inkjet printing for functionalisation of bioscaffolds
Building on results from INKplant project
Objective: to address the identified bottlenecks for the market uptake of inkjet printing technology and corresponding biomaterials, a multi-material process involving 3 materials, and the GMP-compliant features that the printer needs to fulfil will be established. Three different types of biomaterial inks will be developed, including testing in lab scale environment, with industrial printheads and up-scaling of the inks production.
Pilot line 2 Inkjet printing for functionalisation of biosensors
Building on results from SMIS (Romanian funding program)
Objective: Technical activities and interregional collaboration for the demonstration of inkjet printing in a Pilot Line based on an upgraded Ceradrop printer with multi-material inkjet printing capabilities, able to process 2 different types of inks (nanocellulose-inks, bioreceptor-inks) which exhibits GMP-compliant features. The technology of the Pilot Line will be demonstrated with the fabrication of biosensors for incontinence products fabricated with inkjet printing of bioreceptor-inks on an electrochemical sensor array as selective bioreceptor and afterwards encapsulation via printing of nanocellulose-inks. The system will be validated at lab scale, and it will be evaluated if further modifications are needed before selecting the complete configuration for the pilot scale with GMP-compliant features.
Pilot line 3 Inkjet printing for personalisation of pharma products
Building on results from COMET-2D printing for pharmaceutical applications
Objective: Technical activities and interregional collaboration for the demonstration of inkjet printing technology through a Pilot Line based on an upgraded LP50 printer with multi-material printing capabilities, and GMP-compliant features. The pilot line will be demonstrated through the fabrication of temporary tattoos incorporating pain relievers or local anesthetics, enabling personalised medication delivery particularly for children or chronic patients who suffer from dry mouth or needle phobia.
